What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy is a treatment modality that predominantly focuses on treating the musculoskeletal system for several different types of conditions and complaints. ‘Myo’ is purely translated in Latin to ‘Muscle’, which indicates that a Myotherapist specializes in working with muscles. Ranging from muscular tightness, tears, referred pain and muscular spasms, Myotherapy is the ‘go-to’ form of treatment to get you back to your best as soon as possible.

Which techniques can be used in a session?

Myotherapists are trained to use several different treatment techniques to gain the quickest, and most efficient improvement. Practitioners will assess and work out the necessary and most efficient techniques to gain the best results.

Myotherapists have found that they most commonly use:

  • Deep tissue massage

  • Trigger point therapy

  • Myofascial dry needling

  • Cupping

What are the benefits of myotherapy?

Clients will often notice vast improvement after a treatment. This ranges from, and is not limited too:

  • Decrease of muscular tightness and tension

  • Decrease of pain

  • Increase of joint range of motion

  • Decrease of stress and anxiety

  • Improve muscular performance

  • Maintenance of muscular health

  • Injury prevention

What is the difference between Remedial Massage and Myotherapy?

The main difference between the two modalities is the additional study involved. To study Myotherapy, the pre-requisite of completing a Remedial Massage course is required. The additional study covers the learning of more treatment techniques, along with further knowledge of anatomy and musculo-skeletal conditions.

Overall, even with the additional study, Remedial Massage Therapists, and Myotherapists have very similar techniques, and approach to treatment.
